THE WIZARDRY OF OS
By Scott Osborne
They say, "If everyone around you seems crazy, you're the one who's insane." So I guess I am insane. Either that or I am wrong when I think I can hold my bias in check long enough to evaluate situations that don't work out for my teams.
I know it's all supposed to be in the past, but two weeks ago the SEC was threatening to kick LSU out of the conference. 2 weeks ago. I don't care if it was never going to happen. I don't care that it was an idle threat. That makes it worse!!!! All the media kept saying LSU made mistakes along the way, but they never said what those mistakes were. Nobody produced any proof that LSU was pulling the strings.
Which of these were the mistakes? Humans that were not LSU students going to court just like those in Baton Rouge over 300 other athletes from around the country? Are we to believe LSU was controlling all 70 court cases? Is LSU part of The Pentaverate (an obscure reference, but if you saw "So I Married an Ax Murderer" you should get it).
Was the mistake voting with the SEC 16-0 on the new rule that left out professionals from sports like tennis, soccer, and others? Why is it OK for professionals in "Olympic" sports to return to college, but not football and basketball? Why was it OK for Matt Mauck to play pro baseball then return to and play quarterback at 24 for LSU? Chris Weinke was 27 years old when FSU won the national championship and 28 when he won the Heisman after playing pro baseball and everyone celebrated. What has changed to where LSU is being threatened to be voted out of the SEC because two guys who are younger than many others playing college sports and who have made next to nothing playing professional sports try to return to play college sports as the new rule granted others in their high school class?
Greg Sankey is talking about these TWO players taking the spots of new high school graduates. Has he forgotten the last six years? Has he been in a coma? Ever since covid, THOUSANDS of high school athletes that used to go straight to four year colleges sit and wait for the transfer portal that never ends because college coaches are going to take 21 and 22 year olds before they even look at a 17-18 year old. The line is with these TWO athletes? That would be the same as if fire fighters waited for a building to burn almost to the ground, but come in at the end and "save" the last two bricks.
Meanwhile, Trinidad Chambliss is playing a 6th year, outside the new rule, because of a court case. Diego Pavia enjoyed his 6th year after playing 2 years of juco and 4 years of Division I. Where was the concern for the quarterbacks that didn't get to be on the Vanderbilt roster last year or the Ole Miss roster this year? Where is the new rule stating that Ole Miss will be punished for following the ruling of the Mississippi court to allow Chambliss to play?
What mafia-like organization has the SEC turned into when the vote to kick LSU out of the SEC comes AFTER the Tigers do NOT roster the players in question? And in what world can Greg Sankey justify giving LSU the Scarlet Letter and "Go to the mattresses" ("Godfather") over players that made a combined 25,199 dollars, but we are all good with LSU's quarterback making 4 million a year?
These two athletes cannot play in college football because they tried out for the NFL. The NFL says they cannot play in the NFL this year because they are college players. So it turns out that Schroedinger's Cat is simultaneously alive and dead. Again, I must be the insane one.
Then I watched LSU play LA Tech. At halftime LSU had 285 yards and Tech had 0. To be clear. that is ZERO!! Yes, the score was 10-7, thanks to offensive penalties and turnovers. But the final score was 45-14 and Tech is not Northwestern State (sorry folks in Natchitoches, but the Demons are bad).
To be clear, there are things to be concerned about heading into the Ole Miss game, but I was concerned that LSU came out flat in my mind. I have seen teams come out flat and those teams don't outgain their opponent 285-0 in a half. The defense was all over. The offense moved the ball. The run game struggled, but that's what happens over the course of a season. Did I mention Tech had ZERO yards at halftime?! Again, I must be the insane one.
Then, we turn to the Saints and I don't even know where to start. I have watched a LOT of football. Probably more than I should have over my 50 years on Earth. EVERY time a quarterback has been hit while passing the ball, there has been one question. "Was his arm going forward when the defender hit the arm?" If yes, then it was a pass. If not, it is a fumble. Since when did intent get involved? Google, "Aaron Brooks backward pass" and then talk about intent. Saints at Chargers, November 7, 2004.
I'll admit it. These words I have written are the words of a crazy man. but you took the time to read them, so what does that make you?
