THE WIZARDRY OF OS

If there was ever a time where it would be great to be places at once, this is the weekend for me.

Central will host Mandeville in the second round of the playoffs, and the swim team will be in Sulphur for the State Swim Meet. As the swim coach, I will be with a great group of 13 student-athletes. But, I will be missing out on the second round of the playoffs and calling the game with Josh Ward.

Hopefully, the Wildcats will continue to play as well as they have for the past six weeks and I will be able to call the quarterfinal game with Josh Ward the day after Thanksgiving.

Of course, I want to see the Wildcats win, but more than anything, I want to continue to see the way some of the seniors compete one more time. Guys like Devon Gales, Brett Courville, Thomas Eddelman, Paul Broussard, and Hunter Edgens are great ambassadors of Central High and what high school football is about. None of them are going to play in the SEC, but they have maximized their talents.

Whenever they play their last game it will be emotional whether it is in a playoff loss or a state championship. I hope I am able to be there for either scenario. For that to happen, I need a win this week. Go Wildcats!

I know this statement is going to sound terrible, but I have enjoyed watching LSU play football more in the past two weeks than I have in almost a year.

I enjoy efficiency, balance, creativity, execution, and watching LSU spread the ball around on offense. Considering all the Tigers have lost this year in personnel, I will look at the season as a huge success as long as they finish out the season with two wins and the offense continues to develop.

Dennis Dearie takes the week off. We hope to have “Hey Ref” return in next week’s newsletter
