THE WIZARDRY OF OS
2020. 9-11. Katrina. Easily the most life altering events in my personal experience. (My apologies to those from Lake Charles who have had many more storms this century and those in the Baton Rouge area impacted more than I by the flood).
9-11 changed air travel and many other aspects of life. It also brought about the playing of ¨God Bless America¨ at many baseball games, which is much better than ¨Take Me Out to the Ballgame¨ if you ask me.
The impact of Katrina on New Orleans is still being felt, see Jazzland. The Saints and the Superdome could have turned into Jazzland. The Domecoming game against the Falcons and the improvements to the structure of the organization have turned the Saints into one of the best run organizations in professional sports.
What magnificent improvements will come after 2020? There should be many based on how this year has gone.
LSU football will certainly look different. New coordinators on both sides and some new position coaches.
The Saints will enter the post Drew Brees era. I am very concerned about this next chapter of the New Orleans Saints after Drew Brees. It bugs me that Saints fans have not appreciated what we have the last few years.
Even though the Pelicans were stymied by the Suns, there does appear to be a change for the better with the Pelicans. Meanwhile, LSU basketball is once again set up to have a great year. We need March Madness back and it looks like we will have it with LSU playing a prominent role.
College baseball could be outstanding, and if LSU can hit a little bit we could see LSU baseball where we expect the Tigers late in the season.
The NCAA is on the verge of making some drastic changes. The one time free transfer role is really going to make things interesting.
We have learned many things that we did not think were possible. Coaches can use Google Meets and Zooms to meet with each other and players and still get home. The quality of play in the NBA improves when there is less travel.
Fans in the stands, the environment is half of why we love sports. Big 10 football is much more interesting with 100,000 in attendance. I hope we all appreciate the sights and sounds, the pageantry when they return.
Sorry if you thought I was going to make some grand predications of the next great thing. I firmly believe, though, that some great changes are coming. l am excited for what we will see in 2021. Happy New Year!
