NO STEROIDS, WE THINK
One of the truly great Americans, WE BELIEVE, will be riding again for St. Jude’s. Last year, Les Hunt (Hunt’s Tire & Car Care, Greenwell Springs & Sherwood Forest, Central) raised over $5,000 for St. Jude’s by riding 20 miles. This year, his goal is $5,000. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.—What a wonderful cause!!!!!
Please drop by Hunt’s with your donations… or mail to: Hunt’s Tire & Car Care
10440 Greenwell Springs Rd
Baton Rouge LA 70814.
Now, in the prior paragraph we emphasized that WE BELIEVE that Les Hunt is a great American. But, we thought Lance Armstrong was a great American too! Then, he got busted for using steroids, despite, repeatedly vehemently denying that he abused performance enhancing drugs (PEDs). Les Hunt says that he will be riding in the St. Jude Bike-A-Thon steroid-free. He asserts that he does not use PED’s. He claims that he has achieved his physique naturally. We believe him. But, we believed Lance too.

This is a hodgepodge week. There are a number of little subjects that have my attention, but nothing big.
Congratulations to Steph Curry for being names MVP two years in a row. Steph’s award is a slightly bigger story than normal because it is the first time a player has been voted unanimously. His team won 73 games, he shot an amazing percentage, broke tons of records, and was the clear choice, so of course he was the unanimous choice. In my mind, the story is that Jordan was not unanimous in 1995-96 when the Bulls won 72 games. So I looked it up, and Jordan’s stats are incredible from that season, yet he did not receive four votes. Malone received 1, Olajuwon 1, and Anfernee Hardaway received 2 first place votes. All I can say is those four foolish voters must have had their credentials revoked after that year.
Staying with the NBA, I am glad I don’t have a skin in the game or I would have broken my TV by now watching the end of NBA games. I think the issue stems from the philosophy that “players should decide who wins games, not officials.” First of all, I always thought that thought process was dumb. Second, not blowing the whistle still makes a huge difference in who wins or loses the game. Officials cannot help it. By virtue of the job, an official is going to influence who wins a game. Consequently, to make it easier on the officials, players, and coaches let’s all simply agree that the officials are responsible to call what they see throughout the game. And if they can have a little wisdom and anticipation to know a standard basketball strategy of fouling at the end of the game to stop the clock, then that is gravy.
I have a confession to all fans of horse racing. I forgot there was a Triple Crown winner last year until I watched some of the Kentucky Derby coverage. Of course, NBC had a number of stories on the significance of that feat and its impact on the sport. I guess it didn’t make an impact on me.
If you are waiting for me to write about LSU pitching staff and why so many of the pitchers have fallen off this year in the effectiveness, stop waiting. I am shocked and confused as I think the pitchers and coaches are themselves. So instead of throwing a bunch of theories around as if I have a clue, I am going to continue to believe that things could turn around at any moment.

I’m not sure when all this BS will end but somebody’s got to stop the utter madness. Once again the NFL’s Washington franchise is under fire for their supposed use of a racial slur in their continued use of REDSKINS! If maybe they’d have a name like Washington’s Savage, Murdering, Raping, Killers of Innocent Women and Children Redskins then I’d probably say they are correct.
It seems the franchise chose the name many, many years ago not to embarrass or belittle but to show that their team would fight hard and with as strong a determination as those braves who fought so hard to keep the U. S. Government from taking away their land and way of life. This name changing crap has become a new way of life to those that don’t have a life.
This is serious business and shouldn’t be just swept under the rug so to speak. There are two sides to every coin and the side I’m looking at shows a proud people that fought with ferocity against a threat to their very existence. Who wouldn’t want a team to play with that strong desire, heart and determination to come out on top? Don’t we all want our teams no matter the sport to give it their all?
Of course I’m looking for a ray of sunshine in all this and that isn’t what many would call being “Politically Correct” and they are right. I compare “Politically Correctness” to someone that’ll take a lump of cow droppings put it between two pieces of bread and say they enjoyed the taste. I look for the good in people and in this case those demanding a change are so far off base it just shows the depths some will go to legitimize their very existence. These people should be on the front lines to get our country back on top, our people back to work, making sure we all have enough to eat and please stop trying to tear the United States apart from within.
Since I’m part Scotch/Irish should I abandon my wife, children and everything else in my life so I can travel to South Bend, Indiana and demand that Notre Dame discontinue the phrase “Fighting Irish” because it offends me? If you support those idiots in D. C. then you’re only answer has to be YES!
Let’s go back to the beginning, shall we? George Preston Marshall heads up a syndicate and on July 9, 1932 they purchase a team for Boston as in Massachusetts. The first official name for the franchise is “The Braves”. In 1933 he moves the team into Fenway Park of course we know Fenway as the place that the American League’s Red Sox play their home baseball games in. He not only changes stadiums but also the mascot to “The Redskins”. So, since 1933 and ever since this team’s mascot has been the Redskins. That’s 80 years of games and not once did the nation become upset with their choice of a name.
The team stayed in Boston for just four years and in 1937 they made the move to our nation’s capital. I do believe many in the Native American community back then felt it was an honor for the team to choose the name and not once did they even think of uttering that the choice made was an insult to their heritage.
If Mr. Snyder does bow down to the left-wing’s pressure I wonder how long it will be before Atlanta will be the focus of another name change. Just to be clear I’m sure many out there know the term “Braves” means warrior in many cultures and civilizations around the globe. It was always left up to the “Braves” of a certain tribe to go onto the battlefield and kill in the name of the Chief. So, why not consider the term “Braves” as nothing more than anointed killing machines?
I can only hope Mr. Snyder is a man of his word since he said in a CNN interview that “I’ll never change the name of the Redskins, you have my word on that”. Well, only time will tell if he’ll be able to stand up strong or will he fold his cards when a very minute minority challenges HIS RIGHT TO NAME HIS PROPERTY WHAT HE SO DESIRES! But like just about everything else in this world, minorities are crying foul when you don’t allow them the right to choose but they’ll be happy to take your rights away.
Another group of people I’m asking question of is the group calling themselves “Black Lives Matter”. We all remember in Missouri just a couple years back these people tried to burn the town down while claiming a white police officer shot and killed a black teen that was racist in nature. Every TV station ran video of the civil unrest for weeks before things quieted down. In the very recent past here in Baton Rouge we had two black Southern students murdered and New Orleans had one of its former players shot and killed.
I was surprised when there were no protests, marches or demonstrations because three black lives were killed. Maybe we can blame all the Confederate statues as the reason for all the killing going on in New Orleans. Maybe sue Mayor Mitch Landrieu for not taking them down soon enough? The only difference in these killings and the one in Missouri is that it was blacks murdering blacks. So the message I get out of all this is that Black lives only matter when we can use the race card to justifying civil unrest.
So at the end of the day many if not the majority of these so called groups are not protesting anything that resembles racism. No, I think they’re just looking for a reason to exist. If having a football team that calls itself “REDSKINS” offends you then don’t buy tickets to their games. Don’t buy shirts or jerseys either. ‘Da man only listens to his cash register and if the “kitty” runs dry then maybe he’ll consider making a change. But for now, try to make your city a better place to work and live.
America has so many needs that need and deserve attention. A football team that calls itself “REDSKINS” is so far down the list of things that matter the news media should do us and the nation a favor by not giving these hypocrites an avenue for their absurd thinking. If a former resident of Washington, D. C. were alive today he be so shocked and disgusted that the country he help form has turned inside out to where the few control the many!!!!
