THE WIZARDRY OF OS

Assistant Basketball Coach and Head Swimming Coach at Central High

I shouldn’t let little things bother me, but sometimes a little thing will get stuck in my craw. So, I write about it, and then I feel better.

Three weeks ago, a day didn’t go by without CBS, ESPN, or Tiger fans wondering about some aspect of this team. Don’t you remember? Ed Orgeron was the worst coach in the SEC, the offensive line was on the verge of epic disaster, the defense was too young and would be in trouble without Arden Key, and the receivers, oh my goodness the receivers. Combined they had less than 20 career receptions (or something like that). They all might just fall down if a ball was thrown in their direction.

After two weeks, outside of some really dumb penalties, this LSU football team has looked very good and well coached. Again, outside of the penalties, corrections were made from week one. The kickoff coverage was much better, the return games were better, and the offense once again showed its ability to take what the defense gave.

Here is what bothers me. Instead of people being pleasantly surprised, the general consensus seems to completely forget the enormous doubts speculated just a few weeks ago. It reminds me of all those that trashed LSU for even considering that LSU would move on from Les Miles. Since then, not one of those people have hired Coach Miles, and in the meantime there has been a collective sigh of, “Oh my goodness how tough will it be now to prepare for LSU if they actually have an offense that is not from circa 1967?”

Now that is off my chest, I feel better.

Now I will discuss something that will stay heavy on my chest all week, the Saints. I am going to show as much restraint as possible, though. The Patriots have a HUGE advantage this week with extra time to rest and prepare, while the Saints are coming off a short week. Another 0-2 start is very likely, which would make the Carolina and Dolphin games, must wins. I am going to try and be fair and wait until the first four games are in the books before I make drastic statements, but this is not good.

I will make the following statements with no reservations or hesitation.

A few scripted practices against the Chargers and Texans, and a quarter and a half is not enough to get an offense ready to start the season.

In the NFL, receivers are going to make plays, but there are no more excuses for receivers running wide “blank word” open all game long. Once or twice maybe, but not all night. The Saints have 5 players running around in their secondary that were drafted in the first 3 rounds the last four years. They are young and the Saints chose those players over other players that don’t look anywhere near this bad for other teams.

The same can be said for the running backs and the running game. The Saints chose Adrian Peterson over signing defensive players. The Saints chose Kamara, trading up for him, and passing over defensive players. The Saints have chosen to pay Mark Ingram. When not one of them can average over 3 yards a carry for the first three quarters, there needs to be a look inward. I don’t care who or where the game is played.

If the Saints can’t run for more than three yards a carry at Minnesota, then give the ball to Daniel Lasco and Darius Victor. They will also run for less than 3 yards a carry, and not be able to pick up third and shorts. But if in return the Saints could get a push from the defensive line so Sam Bradford doesn’t look like Tom Brady, then the payoff would be worth it.

Looking around the NFL this week there were plenty of bad performances. The Texans were terrible at home, but the Texans have bad talent on offense and no quarterback. The Jets, Colts, and a few others looked bad too, but they are bad. They have bad players. The only other team with good players that looked as bad as the Saints was Cincinnati.

Still, it is one game on the road. But, it would be easier to believe that statement if it didn’t look like all the other games the last three years.

HEY REF

“Say it ain’t so”! Once my editor gets the first draft of this week’s column I may no longer have an avenue to those of you that want just the plain truth and no sugar-coating on the BS! I’ve been sitting here in front of my computer screen doing my best to try and understand just what the hell’s going on in the NFL with all this complete and utter disgraceful behavior by some of the most spoiled individuals to walk onto a football field.

So, with that said let me put out up front some of the things that’s been put into print just this first week of the 2017 NFL season; Pete Carroll has the audacity (AUDACITY IS EDITOR’S WORD replacing Dennis’ original word that is slang for male sexual and excretory organ) to write that “America must respond with compassion when inequalities are brought to light and allow us to have the courage to stand for change”. He’s referencing the plight of all those BLACKS being mistreated by us bad ‘ole white people.

Now the NFL Commissioner himself, Roger Goodell, has made references to the plight of all those oppressed black Americans. He expects the very people THEY need to foot the billions of dollars paid out to those oppressed black Americans to sit quietly as these spoiled little rich black Americans sit or kneel during the playing of our national anthem before each game. I turned to my crystal ball for some divine guidance in this matter and I can see the day coming that the NFL bends over to appease these poor mistreated black Americans and do away with the playing of the anthem and the presentation of our flag so as not to upset these dainty %$*$##!$#T*&^*&@##@!!!!

I can stand up tall and not bat an eye if anyone wants to contest my actions when the subject is helping young black kids succeed. Helping them get jobs, get an education, start their own businesses and a positive way out of ‘da hood and changing their lives for the better. Because I was there, on the front lines trying to get a system in place to help advance the opportunities to young black kids even though the very people that were charged with helping these young black kids kept slamming the door closed when it was time for them to carry the load. My editor was very understanding and has allowed me in the past to go into stark details of the system I was working on for nearly two years of my life, alone and knocked on so many doors trying to get something positive started but when these so called black leaders found out I was WHITE they turned their backs on these kids.

Today’s so called BLACK LEADERS need to keep the vast majority of black Americans down so that they’ll (leaders) will be vital in the minds of these uneducated kids. When these kids hear the same story over and over without being able to question anything then they just turn to the ones that tell them only a black man can help a black man. They don’t know any better and black leaders today want to keep them uneducated and without the ability to reason that their own kind has sold them out from the cradle to the grave.

So, if this is good bye, let it be. But America don’t just sit there doing nothing. “IF” and I do mean IF you are disgusted by the antics of these multi-millionaire hypocrites then there’s only one thing you can do that’ll make the biggest noise this side of the Mississippi; BOYCOTT THE ENTIRE NFL SEASON, ALL PLAYOFF GAMES INCLUDING THE SUPER BOWL. THEN AND ONLY THEN WHEN THE OWNERS AND THE LEAGUE UNDERSTAND THERE’S NOTHING COMING IN AND THE OWNERS HAVE TO DIG EVEN DEEPER THEN MAYBE WE CAN RESUME TALKING AND BRING BACK THE HFL; (HYPOCRITE FOOTBALL LEAGUE).
