THE WIZARDRY OF OS

It's the summer in Louisiana. Everything is "hot" so I am going to serve up some "hot" takes (or lukewarm takes on a variety of topics on a hot day).
● LSU baseball came through the draft in great shape and LSU baseball is going to be really good next year, but the two statements above have nothing to do with each other. The really good players that got through the draft are not going to have a big impact next year, and most won't have a major impact on LSU baseball in the future. Sure, one will be a great outfielder, one will be a great infielder, and one pitcher will be a weekend starter. The other 10 will be role plates and then half of those will transfer after this year or the next. I am fine with the transfer portal, but it makes it difficult for me to get excited about incoming freshmen in any college sport these days.
● The Saints are going to be great on offense, but poor on defense. The offense will be good because the offensive line is good and the skill positions are deep which means the production will not drop because of a few injuries (obviously I am sold on Shough). The defense has lost the guy that makes it go in Demario Davis, and the corners are just not good enough. A group of good defensive tackles could make up for that and I agree with the narrative that the defensive line has more depth, but the Saints need an All-Pro at tackle and I don't see anyone close to that ability at tackle.
● Preseason college football rankings are a complete waste of time to read. Did we not learn anything from LSU, Clemson, and Arch Manning last year? LSU and Clemson were top 10 and Arch Manning was winning the Heisman. There is too much roster turnover to know how good teams are going to be and injuries are even more impactful because the transfer portal has mostly impacted the depth of rosters. LSU might have the deepest quarterback room in college football and that's because the Tigers have a FORMER 5 star backup. Of course, he has never really played, but he has talent. If you are talented at QB, you are not sitting and developing, so find me a school that can overcome losing a top tier QB. still looking?
● I don't know if LSU football will make the playoff, but the Tigers are going to struggle out the gate. There is just too much "new" to be running smoothly early on in the year. Can they still find a way to win against Clemson and Ole Miss? Maybe. But, it is much more likely that they are going to have to find a way to win games late in the year when the schedule is the most challenging to make up for a loss early in the year when the execution was not up to par.
● This isn't a "hot take" but a "hot question." How can one sport of football stay so far back in the dark ages that the spectators and players cannot know how much time is left in the game, but apparently everyone in the world is okay with that except for me? AND, that same sport is so advanced that they have a chip in the ball to determine if there is a goal or if a player is offsides? Meanwhile, our football shows the time, reviews every other play (randomly with "replay assist"), has lines on the TV showing the line of scrimmage, first down, and all the other tech things. BUT, our football, has not put a chip in the ball for us to know if there is a TD so we spend 5 minutes a game waiting for replay to decide? We cannot know how much time is left in a World Cup game? We can't put a chip in a football? C'mon man.
