Some pro teams have been proactive… some reactive. Hats off to the Houston Astros. They saw the signs before everyone else!

Too bad Darryl Dawkins is no longer around. I think we could all go to his planet, Lovetron, which is presumably CaronaVirus free!!

Ummm… what is there to write about?
I could write about NFL free agency, but that happens so fast and we are in the early rush so there is no point trying to keep up in a weekly setting. Maybe once the waters settle on that, I can write about it. For now, I will go on the record that I am glad Brees and Onyemata are returning. I don’t like Tom Brady playing for Tampa. I much preferred Jameis. On a good note, I am happy to know that Ryan Tannehill will make more than Drew Brees next year. The Saints have the better quarterback and for less money.
I could write about the winter sports losing out on their championships and the spring sports losing out on most of their season. But, I think we all feel the same way about this reality, and continuing to rehash doesn’t help.
I can’t use my “summer” tricks and write “mailbag” opinions on a variety of sports.
It is too early to preview what comes next, and I don’t want to play the “what if the games had been played” game. LSU was set up to have a great run of spring sports and that makes me feel worse.
So I am back where I started. Honestly, I was hoping I could come up with enough things that I can’t write about that when I was done I would have an article written. Swing and a miss on that idea.
Instead, I will go ahead and reflect on the 2019-2020 sports season that was the best in my lifetime for what was played on the field.
Whether LSU had the greatest football season of all time is a debate some people enjoy (I am not one of those people). For the point of this discussion, all that matters is that there is no other LSU football team to compare. LSU won every game, Burrow won the Hesiman, and LSU players won many other awards. And we don’t have to deal with any controversy from the BCS leaving USC out of the game.
So, LSU had their best football season of my lifetime and the Saints went 13-3 in the regular season. That is the most games the Saints have won in a season. To make it even better, Atlanta and Carolina had losing records. That is just fantastic. Certainly, losing in the first weekend of the playoffs was not fun, but this season was one of the top 10 in Saints history so that is pretty good.
As for the state of Louisiana, ULL, Tulane, and Louisiana Tech won bowl games! Tech shut out Miami, while ULL beat Miami (OH). Louisiana is dominated the Miamis!
It wasn’t the greatest basketball seasons ever, but they weren’t terrible either. If the Pelicans would have avoided the 13 game losing streak it could have been a pretty good year. As it is, the Pelicans had an average year for them with a heavy lean going in the right direction.
LSU basketball had a successful season. The history of LSU basketball in this century is to have a good year and 3-4 down years. Back to back seasons at the top of the SEC sends a strong message to put LSU basketball in the position it was in when I was growing up in the 80s and early 90s.
So while it was an incomplete sports season, it was a great sports season.
HEY REF
As I sat down trying to come up with a subject for today’s column I couldn’t find anything that’s so important it warranted my attention, except for one. We as in the human race, in every country are under attack by a killer virus. When the subject is survival what could be more important? We’ve seen sports seasons cancelled and rightly so. Each and every one of us has had their day to day routines turned 180 degrees as this killer has no enemy or cure for now.
I’ve followed the reports of the continuing rise in cases and deaths. Every state is now reporting escalating cases and deaths. We better get serious and follow what our president and those scientists working to stop this virus are demanding of us. There is no liberal, conservative, black, white, green, brown, yellow, male or female that won’t be a target of this equal opportunity killer.
The things that I can’t understand are preachers saying they won’t stop having services since “we cured AIDS” or these college kids that aren’t willing to change their “Spring Break” activities. These kids just show how ignorant they are by thinking they’re immune to this virus. And these kids one day will run this country? Don’t think so since they’ll be six feet under! For some reason they can’t figure out this is a global crisis and idiots like these will only allow the deaths to climb due to their ignorance.
Whatever changes that’ll be asked of us should be accepted without question because lives are at stake.
Till next week…
