DESTINED TO WIN
THE CENTRAL STORY is tweaking its Monday religion program. Steve Johnson will now be joined each week by Dr. Rocky Bezet, Pastor of The Rock Church, for “Destined To Win”. The program debuts this Monday night, March 18, 5:30pm—6:30pm, broadcasting live from Jambalaya Bistro in Central on WPFC-1550AM, Baton Rouge or on the Net at JonFineProductions.com
A special thank you to all the area pastors (including Dr. Bezet) who appeared on “As For Me And My House” on THE CENTRAL STORY.
15 DAYS AWAY!
In 2 weeks +, we debut our high school radio (and Internet) broadcasts of Live Oak HS and Walker HS Baseball games
First game is Friday, 3/29, when Walker HS travels to Albany HS
Games will be carried on 1210AM, Baton Rouge and on the Net at JonFineProductions.com
The complete broadcasting schedule (8 regular season games + playoffs) will appear in next week’s newsletter
JF has yet to be kicked out of any Walker or Watson businesses in marketing these broadcasts. In fact, many businesses have even been receptive! No accounting for good taste!!
THE CHAMPS
The Steve Johnson Show on THE CENTRAL STORY will feature the MAIS champion Central Private Academy Basketball team. The Rebels will be represented by head coach Henry Gantz and various players. Also appearing on the show are Donald Ray Lovett (longtime Central HS alumnus, athlete and official in this area) and Nathan Corley (CHS Bowling coach), plus a couple of his players
Steve Johnson continues to take his game to another level. If you haven’t tuned in on Thursday nights to our sports show for a while, you’ll be hearing a much improved program
The Steve Johnson Show airs Thursdays, 5:30pm—6:30pm, on WPFC-1550AM, Baton Rouge or on the Net at JonFineProductions.com, broadcasting live from Zoe’s Pizza Buffet in Central
Kandi Johnson’s KandiLand was broadcast live from The Central Republlican Women’s Fashion Show, last Friday night at Kristenwood. Stunningly, Kandi’s friends on the show—T. J. Johnson, Aaron Moak or Philip Ziegler--did not win any fashion awards. And, shockingly, no one asked for a recount
Matt Price’s The Central Business Report on THE CENTRAL STORY this Tuesday night (at The Jambalaya Bistro) will feature a number of guests, including a couple of representatives from The Bank of Zachary
Brockwell Bone’s Looking Forward on THE CENTRAL STORY continues to get good reviews. Brockwell’s show airs Wednesday nights at Zoe’s Pizza Buffet.

Considering this time of year is the "off season” (since football is over), this is one heck of a busy week. NFL free agency has begun, March Madness has begun, LSU begins spring practice, and LSU baseball begins SEC play.
Of all those stories, I have to admit that LSU spring practice is the least interesting. There will be very little hard news coming from the practice fields. Instead, the media will be flooded with second hand stories, word on the street, and over reaching conclusions from 20 minutes of warm up drills at practice.
I have seen where many people are trying to figure out how Cam Cameron will impact the passing game, how the new defensive line will look, and other things that will be impossible to figure out from spring practice. Personally, I will be paying attention to the reports on how Alfred Blue and Travin Duval look coming off their injuries, since that is one of the few things that can actually be seen.
As for LSU baseball, I can't imagine a more difficult opening SEC weekend. The team has yet to travel outside the state of Louisiana, and they will be playing their first three road games at one of the toughest places to play in the SEC. If LSU can score 4-5 runs a game in Starkville that will be a great sign for the rest of SEC play. More likely, Eades, Nola, and especially the bullpen, will have to be at their best for the Tigers to win the series.
The start of NFL free agency has already answered the Saints biggest off season question mark. Apparently, the Saints do not see Jermon Bushrod as a premier left tackle. I am very secure Sean Payton is not going to allow Drew Brees to be exposed on his blind side, so there is a plan in place to replace Bushrod (though nobody knows that plan outside of the Saints offices). Nevertheless, it is worth noting that Aaron Kromer is the Bears offensive coordinator and wanted Bushrod. Consequently, the question is whether Bushrod is that good or if the Bears left tackle situation was that desperate?
Either way, with the moves already being made by the Seahawks and Niners to improve their offenses, it is clear that the Saints and the rest of the NFC had better be right in the player evaluation in free agency and the draft.
Finally, March Madness has arrived. The next two weekends are the most interesting in my book unless your favorite team makes the Sweet Sixteen or the Final Four. The conference tournaments are a silly way of determining an automatic qualifier, but it makes for high drama. Those tournaments lead into the whirlwind of Selection Sunday, leading into filling out brackets, and then all the games on the first weekend. The best part this time of year for me?? All of this excitement leads into the beginning of Spring Break.
HEY REF
I’m not sure when all this BS will end but somebody’s got to stop the utter madness. Once again the NFL’s Washington franchise is under fire for their supposed use of a racial slur in their continued use of REDSKINS! If maybe they’d have a name like Washington’s Savage, Murdering, Raping, Killers of Innocent Women and Children Redskins then I’d probably say they are correct.
It seems the franchise chose the name many, many years ago not to embarrass or belittle but to show that their team would fight hard and with as strong a determination as those braves who fought so hard to keep the U. S. Government from taking away their land and way of life. This name changing crap has become a new way of life to those that don’t have one.
This is serious business and shouldn’t be just swept under the rug so to speak. There are two sides to every coin and the side I’m looking at shows a proud people that fought with ferocity against a threat to their very existence. Who wouldn’t want a team to play with that strong desire, heart and determination to come out on top? Don’t we all want our teams no matter the sport to give it their all?
Of course I’m looking for a ray of sunshine in all this and that isn’t what many would call being “Politically Correct” and they are right. I compare “Politically Correctness” to someone that’ll take a lump of cow sh*t put it between two pieces of bread and say they enjoy the taste. I look for the good in people and in this case those demanding a change are so far off base it just shows the depths some will go to legitimize their very existence. These people should be on the front lines to get our country back on top, our people back to work, making sure we all have enough to eat and please stop trying to tear the United States apart from within.
Since I’m part Scotch/Irish should I abandon my wife, children and everything else in my life so I can travel to South Bend, Indiana and demand that Notre Dame discontinue the phrase “Fighting Irish” because it offends me? If you support those idiots in D. C. then you’re only answer has to be YES!
Let’s go back to the beginning, shall we? George Preston Marshall heads up a syndicate and on July 9, 1932 they purchase a team for Boston as in Massachusetts. The first official name for the franchise is “The Braves”. In 1933 he moves the team into Fenway Park of course we know Fenway as the place that the American League’s Red Sox play their home baseball games in. He not only changes stadiums but also the mascot to “The Redskins”. So, since 1933 and ever since this team’s mascot has been the Redskins. That’s 80 years of games and not once did the nation become upset with their choice of a name.
The team stayed in Boston for just four years and in 1937 they made the move to our nation’s capital. I do believe many in the native American community back then felt it was an honor for the team to choose the name and not once did they even think of uttering that the choice made was an insult to their heritage.
If Mr. Snyder does bow down to the left-wing’s pressure I wonder how long it will be before Atlanta will be the focus of another name change. Just to be clear I’m sure many out there know the term “Braves” means warrior in many cultures and civilizations around the globe. It was always left up to the “Braves” of a certain tribe to go onto the battlefield and kill in the name of the Chief. So, why not consider the term “Braves” as nothing more than anointed killing machines?
I can only hope Mr. Snyder is a man of his word since he said in a CNN interview that “I’ll never change the name of the Redskins, you have my word on that”. Well, only time will tell if he’ll be able to stand up strong or will he fold his cards when a very minute minority challenges HIS RIGHT TO NAME HIS PROPERTY WHAT HE SO DESIRES! But like just about everything else in this world, minorities are crying foul when you don’t allow them the right to choose but they’ll be happy to take your rights away.
If a former resident of Washington, D. C. were alive today he be so shocked and disgusted that the country he help form has turned inside out to where the few control the many!!!!
Till next week… …
