THE WIZARDRY OF OS

So Lance Armstrong cheated to win bike races and the baseball writers are not allowing anyone into the Hall of Fame this year because of performance enhancing drugs. What do we do now?

I am sorry to say I don’t have a good answer for what to think regarding these athletes past accomplishments. But, I do have an answer for what we should do now. Let’s stop worrying so much about the past. It is gone, and I am ready to move on.

I want the Livestrong organization to be able to raise money and inspire those dealing with cancer. That is the bottom line. As for Lance Armstrong, I hope he is able to live as he chooses whether that is to live the rest of his life in the background enjoying his family or in the limelight teaching through his life experiences.

As for baseball, I am much more concerned with the number of franchises that are in MLB just to say they are in the sport. Situations with teams like in Miami are of more concern to me than who is in or out of the Hall of Fame.

For the record, I love traditions and remembering past accomplishments. But, we remember history to learn lessons or enjoy wonderful memories. There is a great Arab proverb that says, “Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble.” This recent past era of baseball and cycling can be written in sand, and now it is time to move on.

HEY REF

Veteran Louisiana High School Official

Well, scratch another “HERO” from the list! I’m speaking of non-other than Mr. Lance Armstrong, winner of seven, count them, seven Tour de France bicycle races. For everyone that had been wondering how he could win seven in a row without using drugs, wonder no more. It’s truly a sad situation that someone that looked so clean, so American would stoop so low as to not only use the drugs but continue to deny he in fact is a dope head.

What’s even sadder is the fact he waited until the money was right to confess to Oprah Winfrey! More on that later, but here was a guy who thought his good looks would squash any questions of drug use. How many times had he looked into the camera and asked the American public “How can you ask that question of me”?

Simple, Mr. Armstrong you are no match for the money being heaved your way or the power that drugs have on every aspect of our lives. From baseball, basketball and football players to geeks that play chess, drugs are everywhere. Drugs and the lust for money are too powerful for any individual that doesn’t have a real job.

Come on, a guy that pedals a bike faster and longer than any other human had to be using what are called “Performance enhancing” drugs. We’ve lost so many talented people to drugs I just wonder why our country doesn’t get down and dirty to fight the drug problem. I’m watching a show now that’s dealing with drugs in prison. You’d think we could keep drugs out of the most secured places in our country but we can’t.

This program is showing how the gang/drug units are fighting to keep the drugs from getting to the population. But I find it comical since in this prison over 3,300 inmates are housed and the drug unit has a total of (8) eight officers to combat drugs being introduced there. If it weren’t so damn sad, I’d be laughing all day and night.

The truth be known the drug importers have bought off practically every politician to keep them from really going after the upper tier of the drug industry. When I was working in New Jersey a large bank was found guilty of laundering $15 million dollars of dope money.

What did the courts do? NOTHING! They fined the bank exactly $15 million dollars. Any interest in what they did to the president of the bank? How about the chairman of the board or the CEO? They all kept their jobs and it was business as usual the very next day.

If we want to get serious about the drug problem then all of the above need to sentenced to LIFE without any possibility of parole then and only then will we start to make headway in solving the problems our country if facing.

But back to Mr. Armstrong, here’s a guy that was adored as an all American hero and for years would act shocked if anyone would ask “the question”. Buy now he’s asking us to forgive him and to “understand”. Sorry, Lance, you’re nothing but a dope head and you should suffer all the embarrassment our nation can heap upon you!

What’s sad in this confession, he did it on Oprah’s show. Even in disgrace he’s looking to make a buck on his drug problems. How sad, it just doesn’t make sense to me that she would allow him to do it on her show. Oh, wait, she’s about ratings anyway. Didn’t she want O. J. to confess on her show too?

I tell everyone that’ll listen to “get between your children and the drug world”. No matter the cost, we’ve got to do it. Our government refuses to so it’s left up to us. The future of our country depends on shaking the drug use problems we find at every turn we take. Many don’t support the death penalty but in my mind we’ve got to get serious about the drug lords because they are all about the almighty dollar.

I feel Lance has let this country down and only the severest of penalties is called for. Sorry, I can’t forgive him nor will I ask anyone else to. Maybe stripping these people of their citizenship might wake some of them up and get clean. But I doubt it, we love heroes, we make new ones just about every day of the year.

Till next week… … … … … …
