PRESS RELEASE

CENTRAL HS FOOTBALL RADIO/ INTERNET BROADCASTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/28/12

Central HS Football is on the air in 2012! For the third consecutive season, Central HS Football games will be broadcasted on the radio and the Internet. For the past 6 years, Wildcats games have been heard on the Internet. This year, all 10 regular season games and playoff games will be carried on WPFC, 1550AM, Baton Rouge, on the Net at JonFineProductions.com and at Central Now app. Broadcasts will start at 6pm. The first broadcast will be Friday, August 31, as the Wildcats play host to Istrouma HS. Central HS Football broadcasts are a Jon Fine Production.

The broadcast team for CHS football is Josh Ward on play-by-play, Scott Osborne on color, Dr. Les Bueche on the pre-game show, with Victoria Eskola to interview Coach Sid Edwards at half-time and post-game. Ward, a former high school basketball coach, returns for his fifth year as the voice of the Wildcats. Osborne, also in his fifth year as color commentator for Central, is an assistant basketball coach and teacher at Central. Dr. Bueche is the public address announcer for CHS Football. Eskola is a Spanish teacher at CHS.

In addition to producing Central HS Football broadcasts, Jon Fine Productions also produces THE CENTRAL STORY. Airing Monday—Friday nights, 5:30pm—6:30pm, THE CENTRAL STORY concentrates on a different aspect of Central every night. On Thursday nights, The Sid Edwards Show, Co-hosted by City of Central Athletics Director and Central Football Coach Sid Edwards and Central HS assistant football coach Steve Johnson broadcasts live from Zoe’s Pizza Buffet, Greenwell Springs Road, next To St. Alphonsus Church. THE CENTRAL STORY can be heard on WPFC, 1550AM, along with JonFineProductions.com on the Net and at Central Now app.

During Football season, with the CHS broadcasts starting at 6pm, Friday’s show on THE CENTRAL STORY, KandiLand, with Kandi Jones, starts at 5pm.

Central Speaks Newspaper Host Dave Freneaux hosts Central Speaks Radio Hour on THE CENTRAL STORY, Wednesdays, 5:30pm—6:30pm.

Central HS Broadcast producer Jon Fine hosted drive-time daily sports talk shows in the Baton Rouge area for close to 20 years, beginning in 1991. Presently, he had taken his company in a new direction, with THE CENTRAL STORY and The Dru Nettles (Television) Show both debuting in the last 5 months. (The Dru Nettles Show, a Denham Springs HS oriented program airs Thursdays, 6pm, on Cox 4. Fine co-hosts this program.).

The 2012 Central HS Football radio/Internet broadcasts include a 60 minute pre-game show, “The Central Title & Closing Wildcats Warm-Up”, which features an extensive interview with Wildcats coach Sid Edwards. At half-time, “The Central Stat Care Half-Time Report” includes an interview with a prominent Central personality. Following the game, tune in to “ Zoe’s Pizza Buffet Wildcats Wrap-Up”, which includes the “Chase Health Care Player of The Game”. When the Wildcats score, it is via the “Hunts Tire & Car Care Scoring Drive”.

A real good reason to root for the Wildcats to win this year is that after every Central victory on Friday night, Dairy Queen in Central will offer Blizzards for 99 cents all day Saturday! David’s Tiger Express and Dairy Queen is located on the corner of Hooper and Joor in Central.

AFTER HOURS

Late-Night Musings From A Former LSU Beat Writer

By Carl Dubois, Sports Editor, (McMinnville, Oregon) News-Register

THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY, Ore. — This is After Hours column No. 101. It’s also the last. My career has taken an unexpected turn, and it’s time for me to let go of this wonderful opportunity to visit with you every week. I’ve accepted an editor position with CBSSports.com, and my last day as sports editor of the News-Register will be Sept. 7. After that, most of my energy will be devoted to my new job and other personal goals that are part of this life change.

Jon asked me to let you know, and I’m glad he did. I’ve enjoyed this “After Hours” work on the side, a labor of love that never felt like work. It’s given me a chance once a week to stay connected to my home state, a regular date to check in and think out loud about things going on in your world. Louisiana looks different from afar, but it always looks and feels like home. It’s been an honor to post some thoughts, some of them random, for you in the nearly two years since I began writing for Jon.

Sometimes the stars have aligned so that I could share my perspective on LSU as well as something here in Oregon, such as when the Ducks played the Tigers in football and in basketball. At other times, I talked about the Civil War, the annual rivalry between the Ducks and the Beavers. This week, I’d planned to have fun with the scheduled game in nearby Corvallis between Nicholls State and Oregon State, a game still up in the air at the time of this writing. Instead, I find myself glued to The Weather Channel and hoping you are all OK as Hurricane Isaac takes his time plowing through Southeast Louisiana. Hang in there, friends.

I’ll be staying in the Pacific Northwest, as the job gives me the freedom to work from home or anywhere I have an Internet connection. Perhaps we’ll see each other one day as I prune adjectives at a coffee shop near you. Whatever the case, After Hours or During Hours, Louisiana will never be far from my mind. Take care, and thank you for being part of my connection to home for 101 weeks. Thanks, Jon, for the opportunity.

This is where I usually say, “See you next week,” but let’s just agree to meet up again someday. Best wishes.

THE WIZARDRY OF OS

I am looking forward to broadcasting Central's season opener against Istrouma this Saturday morning for many reasons (I am being optimistic about the weather as I write this before Isaac).

Personally, I really enjoy working with Josh Ward. We have experienced many great moments in Central sports history together. Beyond that, we enjoy hanging out and talking which comes in handy during difficult games or slow moving games.

On the football side, I expect another entertaining season of competitive games for Central for a few reasons.

First, Central is very talented, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Gary Triplett, Devon Gales, Jake Myer, and Brett Courville return on offense while sophomore Terrell Chatman is another talented receiver to add to the mix. Furthermore, those are just the player most likely to make big plays. The offensive line is solid and experienced, and there are many other quality skill players. Defensively, Central is experienced at linebacker and in the secondary.

Second, the Wildcats have a very challenging schedule. St. Thomas More will bring one of the best teams in 4A to Wildcat Stadium in week 2, though they return just a handful of starters. St. Amant, Woodlawn, and Catholic are quality teams from the other 5A district in the Baton Rouge. Meanwhile, in district, we will get one more chance to see Carlton Perkins and Kaleb Blanchard before they go off to play college football. In addition to Blanchard, Denham has LSU commit Tevin Lawson and 37 seniors. Zachary is once again stacked with great players on offense. Scotlandville will have a good chance to build off of last year’s playoff season.

Finally, Coach Sid has a flare for the dramatic. For those that saw Sean Payton speak to North Texas on YouTube, you heard a message that Coach Sid is a master at providing his teams. Payton told the Mean Green that everyone in the program has to believe they have the best script. Robert Di Nero doesn’t take “B” scripts. In football, players must believe they have best offensive system, the best special teams plan, the best game plan, etc. You can call it confidence, ego, or swagger. Either way, it is a quality that allows teams be special and provide magical moments.

As I type the article, I am feeling the excitement of this time of the year in South Louisiana (or maybe it is just the low pressure of a tropical system… not sure). The anticipation of game week is here, and I am looking forward to the spirit of Friday nights.

DENNIS DEARIE IS TAKING SOME TIME OFF. WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE RETURN OF HIS “HEY REF” COLUMN.
