THE WIZARDRY OF OS
Assistant Basketball Coach and Head Swimming Coach at Central High
I must not be paying close enough attention to the College Football Playoff. Seriously, that may be the truth since LSU hasn’t been in contention since its inception.
Still, I don’t understand the uproar about Alabama being in the top four despite not winning the conference. Ohio State made the top four last year without qualifying for the Big 10 Championship Game. So the precedent has been set. The last team in will always be controversial, it is the nature of the beast.
I haven’t done too well predicting recently, but my initial reaction is that Georgia is going to get routed by Oklahoma. Clemson will get by Alabama. Then Oklahoma will beat Clemson.
Meanwhile, the Saints did not control line of scrimmage and still beat the Panthers without Lattimore. Impressive.
I am trying to keep my expectations and excitement under control, but the signs of a special season keep popping up. Including, Taysom Hill, the third string quarterback not only playing special teams, but making tackles left and right.
I don’t want to be greedy, but there are a couple of improvements going forward I would love to see from the Saints.
Any sort of kick return game would be amazing. Just ten yards here and there to make it a bit easier on the offense would be nice.
The defense had a stretch of forcing turnovers from the third to fifth week and that has pretty much vanished. The turning point this week was when Carolina’s punter gifted the Saints the ball. Hopefully getting closer to full strength will help the Saints get a few more turnovers down the stretch.
A couple of games this year Brees has been able to hit Ted Ginn deep, and other times they haven’t been able to get on the same page. Ginn is so explosive, I hope Drew can get the timing down with him to hit some big plays.
We are entering the fourth quarter of the season, and I am shocked that the Jets game looks is going to be as challenging as it appears. Goes to show what happens when I pay attention to national media who thought the Jets would go 1-15 before the year started.
I know most Saints fans believe going to Atlanta and winning on a short week will be very difficult or maybe that is just me. I have watched Atlanta a few times this year and have no idea why they are not better on offense. Maybe they are trying too hard to trick defenses and should just run the ball and throw to Julio. I don’t know, but hopefully they don’t figure it out on a short week.
I see the Saints having a tough time on offense Thursday night. Andrus Peat was obviously hurt against Carolina and struggled. The short week doesn’t usually help a player get to full speed. Maybe Armstead can play. Either way, on the road against a desperate Atlanta team will require the best pass protection possible for a win.
So far the Saints road games against quality teams have been feast or famine. The Vikings and Rams games were pretty rough, while the Bills and Panthers games were surprisingly comfortable wins. I expect the game in Atlanta to be right in the middle and come down to the end.
HEY REF
The hypocrisy has to stop! I’m going to give all my readers a “heads-up” on the next bomb to explode in this Kaepercrap story. He has embarked on a “MISSION” through his COLIN KAEPERNICK FOUNDATION “to fight oppression of all kinds globally through education and social activism”. That’s a hefty goal no doubt and one I can support whole heartedly but until he was left without a team to play for I’d love to get his answer to my question; “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN THE LAST 50 PLUS YEARS”?
That’s one question you can be assured that he’ll dodge just as swiftly as he did NFL linebackers while playing professional football. You see in the REAL world where most of us live racism and hatred have always been just around every corner in this country. I’m sure all countries have had their share of fighting racism but since I live in America I’ll stick to what I know.
You’d have to be the biggest fool on this planet to think that you’ve got the answer to end all hate and remove racism from our society. I’m not about to say I have the answer to end racism in America because as we know America has always been described as a “melting pot”. Racism and hatred will remain one of our ugliest truths. America stands out from every other nation on this planet for the simple fact we are the only nation that isn’t a one race nation. Let me explain what I mean by that, take China for example, a country made up of 99.9% Chinese. Japan also a country made up of nearly one race; Japanese. And you can go down the list and for all intended purposes America stands alone.
We fought our un-civil war and the outcome was and will always be this country is one, made up of many parts, none better than another. But along the way those charged with seeing that our society blends into a cohesive unit have forgotten how and why this is the best country you’d ever want to live in hands down. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been sacrificed so that one and only one standard stands firm today; “All for one and one for all”. I’m not trying to get anyone to jump up and down and get all excited but what I will do is put the facts out there and let the facts speak for themselves, let the pieces lie where they will.
The truth is a simple one in that behind this entire hooray Kaepercrap is trying to do just one thing; muster up a shameful expression of being self-serving at best. He gambled that by opting out of his last contract with the 49ers he’d hit the motherlode of all time and sign a contract similar to Jimbo at A&M! Colin was adopted by a white family and has never had to “want” for anything no matter what the press tries to say.
His so called foundation is trying to raise a million dollars. Check out the website www.kaepernick7.com and you’ll see posted they’ve reached $900 grand and need just another $100 to make their target. Come on Colin, help your own cause and donate a cool $5 million from that huge account you’ve got. Or maybe you’re broke and your gamble backfired, I don’t know. You’ve cost the NFL no telling a few hundred million with this circus act and are nothing more than a self-serving sociopath.
We’ll leave that last one open for debate and please let me get back on track. The next bomb to hit the NFL is the continued and expanding investigation by the FBI into the possibility of collusion among the group of 33. The FBI is going over every piece of evidence pertaining to what the owners knew, when they knew it, when they discussed it and how they planned on carrying it out. The emails, text messages and phone records between the owners and Commissioner Roger Goddell have been (cell and office) subpoenaed.
It’s too early to say if the gang of 33 has crossed all their T’s and dotted all their I’s but the new 5 year contract extension Goodell signed maybe the next thing taking up a lot of time in the FBI’s DC headquarters. The NFL as it sits today is a not-for-profit organization. O. K. stop laughing but as a NFP rating the NFL must follow certain federal guidelines. One of the biggest things the NFL must do in keeping this status is they are not allowed to put up barriers for any one certain individual or as they say it they can’t conspire to keep an individual or group based on etc., etc., etc.
So the question being discussed behind closed doors is “did the owners, commissioner and any other party collude in keeping Kaepernick from earning a living within a non-profit organization governed by federal laws”? If the NFL were found guilty of the crime it would bankrupt the league and forever change the face of Sunday football. At the end of the day Kaepernick could collect BILLIONS in penalties and fines. Over 1,600 players would be left out in the cold as the league wouldn’t be able to pay the billions in salaries nor would there be a professional football league for many years.
And just when Jimbo thought he’d signed the biggest contract ever for a college coach it might turn out to be just an average salary since there’d be no other football being played on such a large stage as the NFL. I just shake my head and wonder if those good ‘ole boys shredded every piece of evidence out there. But then again, this is the land of opportunity and some unforeseen office boy might be holding the “UN-HOLY GRAIL” and the future of professional football in America!
Till next week…
