SCHEDULE CHANGES: With this week’s Central HS Football broadcast being moved to Thursday night, all sorts of chaos reigns at Jon Fine Productions!:
--The Sid Edwards Show, normally airing 5:30pm—6:30pm on Thursday nights, will move this week to Thursday, 5pm—6pm, broadcasting live from Zoe’s Pizza Buffet. Coach Sid and Steve Johnson will both call in from Wildcats Stadium for a segment.
Zoe’s owner (and area radio/tv personality) Blake Andrews and Jon Fine will man the mics at Zoe’s.
--KANDILAND TO 5:30PM ON FRIDAY: Since there is no Central broadcast on Friday night, KandiLand, with Kandi Jones, normally airing 5:00pm—6:00pm on Friday nights during football season, will move this week to Friday, 5:30pm—6:30pm.
--THE PRICE IS RIGHT!
Probably fed up with Jon Fine as co-host (and with good reason), Matt Price will now host The Central Business Report on THE CENTRAL STORY, Tuesday nights from Café Delphi Greek & Lebanese Restaurant without interference from Jon!

PRESS RELEASE
The Dru Nettles Show
Central Football Coach Sid Edwards joins 4 other guests on this week’s The Dru Nettles Show (co-hosted by DSHS Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Dru Nettles and Jon Fine on Cox 4 Television. The program airs Thursday night from 6pm—7pm, with a Friday morning, 10:30am replay). Joining Edwards will be DSHS Trainer/Head Softball Coach David Bourque, Former Jackets Softball coach Laurin Byars, and a DSHS student representing the Color Guard. The sponsor of the week is Taddi Brown of Screen Tech Promotions.
Edwards is the coach of the Jackets next opponent, Central HS. The Jackets face the Wildcats Thursday night at Central. After a 2 year hiatus, Edwards rejoined the Wildcats this season as head football coach, where he has led them to first place in District 4-5A, with a 6-1, 2-0 record. He also serves as the City Of Central Athletic Director and Wildcats Softball coach. In the early 2000’s, he coached Redemptorist HS to state championships in both football and basketball.
Bourque serves the Jackets as both trainer and head softball coach. He has been very successful at both, leading the Lady Jackets to the state tournament in softball his 2 seasons at the helm of the Lady Jackets Softball program. He also looked dapper accompanying his daughter on the Homecoming Court last Thursday night. There is a possibility that Bourque rented this suit from the same establishment that Coach Nettles rented his suit for the Hall of Fame Banquet.
Byars is one of the greatest coaches in state softball history. She, along with co-coach Robbie Spangler led the Lady Jackets to numerous state tournaments and state championships.
The DSHS color guard appearance is part of The Dru Nettles Show Bi-Monthly academic segment, arranged by DSHS principal Kelly Jones.
Screen Tech Promotions has been a long-time sponsor of Jon Fine Productions Denham Springs HS broadcasts and has furnished The Dru Nettles Show crew the shirts they wear on the program.
This week’s program will also include highlights of the Jackets 30-7 victory last week over Live Oak HS.

THE WIZARDRY OF OS
Oh the difference a week makes. So what have we learned now about this year’s LSU football team after game 7?
The depth is incredible. How many other teams have their sixth string running back at the start of fall camp run wild on one of the top defenses in the country? Down three starters on the offensive line and the offensive line plays its best game since sometime last November. That is incredible depth, and a great job by the coaching staff. (warning
I am joking with the next comment) But maybe LSU should try their backup punter and place kicker since Wing and Alleman have performed below the standards they set last year.
Another thing we learned is that, amazingly, LSU can still run against one of the top defenses even when the defense commits 8 and 9 in the box. LSU still cannot consistently get it in the end zone that way, but they showed they are able to move the ball between the 20s that way.
How did LSU do it? I am not totally sure, and for the record Kirk Herbstreit was as amazed as I. LSU displayed just enough new wrinkles, and I was glad to see some of the new wrinkles have success. For example:
• Spencer Ware's lined up at quarterback.
• Russell Shepard in jet sweep motion helped slow pursuit to where Spencer Ware was able to beat one defender in space for a third down conversion.
• A few stretch handoffs as well as toss sweeps sprinkled in with runs between the tackle.
Those are just a few examples, and the point is that all the wrinkles didn’t work directly. But, indirectly, the impact on the South Carolina defense was apparent. Overall, the performance demonstrates that LSU has not needed drastic change on offense to be productive. Instead, the combination of execution, just enough creativity to make the defense think, and putting talented players in their best positions can be the formula to success. A few more misdirection plays and new wrinkles inside the 10 yard line and LSU will be rolling.
The last thing I have learned is that I need to stop hoping for a plan B to offensive success just in case LSU can't run against 8 and 9 in the box. There isn't another plan. They are not going to “take advantage of what the defense gives them. Instead, LSU is going to do what they do. That is the path to victory. And if that doesn’t work, then LSU is going to be held to 200 yards of offense or less against a quality defense. And if I don’t like that? Then I better change the channel.
HEY REF
Please take your medicine like a man! Once again our court system is being used for something it shouldn’t be involved in. Case in point New Orleans’ suspended linebacker Jonathan Vilma. He continues running back and forth to the courts in an effort to “clear” his name in the Bounty scandal.
Just yesterday a federal magistrate ordered NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to turn over more documents he used in making a decision to suspend Vilma. Vilma is pressing forward in his defamation suit against the league and the system used by Goodell that ultimately proved his guilt and the commissioner’s decision that he be suspended without pay.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has confirmed the league has already discussed Federal Judge Daniel Knowles’ demand for the release of more documents. Knowles wants more evidence of Vilma’s guilt so he can decide if his attorneys can proceed in overturning the season long suspension that Goodell handed down after a lengthy investigation.
Vilma wants the suspension lifted so he can rejoin the Saints and receive a paycheck. The judge’s order doesn’t go as far as allowing Vilma and his lawyers to see the papers. The NFLPA has also filed a suit on behalf of three other players that were also suspended for their involvement in the “pay for pain” scheme.
What is unbelievable in the player’s suit is they contend Goodell is incapable to be neutral in the case since he made public statements in March 2012 of the player’s guilt BEFORE the “disciplinary process began”. Are you kidding me? I would sure hope he be aware of guilt by the players and coaches BEFORE handing down any penalty and/or fines. Would you be happier if he didn’t know of any guilt BEFORE suspending anyone?
That’s the way it should be. How can you penalize anyone if in fact you aren’t aware of any wrong doing? Would you want him to hand down any penalties if you were innocent? I think not, he’d have to know if there was guilt BEFORE handing down any decisions. Remember in this country you are innocent until proven guilty. So he has to know the extent of guilt BEFORE he can come to some decision of a penalty to hand down on those that broke the rules!
Something that should be brought up is the utter silence of head coach Sean Peyton. His silence is shouting out loud that there was indeed some rules being broken by some of the Saint’s players. If there weren’t any rules being broken I know Peyton would be yelling from atop the Super Dome. But by staying silent on his yearlong suspension speaks volumes to me.
Defensive coach Gregg Williams and his assistant Mike Cerullo are also staying quiet and serving a possible lifelong ban from the professional game. It’s like any other case where as some defendants are offered deals for their testimony. Killers are often given lighter sentences for their testimony at trial. So, Mr. Vilma you got caught and now you’ve got to pay for your crime. Be a man, stand up straight, admit your involvement and serve your penalty.
While families are waiting years to have a killer brought to stand trial and face justice they’ve got to sit and wait even longer because these spoiled little football players have our courts backed up hearing ridiculous cases such as Mr. Vilma’s!!!
Till next week… …
