JACKETS SEASONS CONCLUDES
Coach Brett Beard’s 2022 Denham Springs HS Football team had a terrific season, which came to an end last Friday night vs Ruston HS. Thus, our 27th season broadcasting DSHS Football games came to a conclusion as well.

THE WIZARDRY OF OS
A pass interference that rivaled the NOLA No Call and cost LSU a first down. A holding call that had nothing to do with the play and was anything but holding that cost another first down. A scoop and score.
I am not here to complain about the officiating in the A&M game, though those two lapses in judgment were significant. I bring up those three plays to show how fine the line is for LSU football between winning and losing this year.
I know we all got greedy and wanted to challenge for the playoff this year. In retrospect though, this football team is the best case scenario of what we could have hoped for this year.
Florida State, Alabama, and Tennessee are pretty good. LSU could have won 2 out of 3, but they really should have beaten Florida State but lost to Alabama. How different would the Alabama game have been if LSU does not make the interception on the first drive? What if Taylor dropped the pass like LSU receivers dropped passes against A&M?
Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, and A&M are similar and we saw them win and lose to each other. LSU was able to dominate the Mississippi teams in the second through fourth quarters, but the first quarters were bad for LSU. What if Mississippi State’s receivers and punt returner catch the ball? What if Ole Miss knew Harold Perkins was a one man wrecking crew?
The last four in the above list all had the same problem. Inconsistent or poor play at quarterback. LSU’s defense was lost at times against Florida and Auburn, but a few key plays went LSU’s way. Against Arkansas, LSU doesn’t win if Harold Perkins does not have the game of a lifetime. Of course, we all know that A&M’s maligned offensive line dominated the Tigers and the freshman quarterback played better than all the mediocre teams LSU beat previously.
The reality is that the Vegas experts predicted LSU would win 7 games. LSU won 9 and won the SEC West. This LSU team is more like the Missouri teams that made back to back SEC championships when the SEC East was down. The difference is those teams were as good as it was going to get for Missouri. For LSU under Brian Kelly, this is just the beginning.
