ANOTHER TALKER FOR LIVE OAK AND WALKER
This week, we were delighted to find out that Robbie Harrison will serve as color commentator on Live Oak HS Baseball broadcasts
Robbie joins fellow one-time Livingston Sports Weekly host Chris Ledoux, who will do color on Walker HS Baseball broadcasts, on our upcoming high school baseball games on 1210AM and JonFineProductions.com (Internet) We’re still trying to figure out who joins these 2 luminaries in calling play-by-play
Special thanks to Walker businesses for a terrific response. JF will continue to bamboozle in the Walker community, before turning his charms (lol) to Watson in the next few days.
CLASS IN THE PAST AT CENTRAL
It was great to hear Central HS Hall of Famer Ronnie Devall on last week’s The Steve Johnson Show on THE CENTRAL STORY. Hearing Steve’s terrific interview had to bring back great memories to many Central people who got to know Coach Devall in several capacities in Central. When Jon Fine (Sports) Productions first got involved in Central sports broadcasts with Central Coaches Corner (hosted by Steve Johnson and Wes Watts) and select Central Basketball broadcasts in the mid-00’s, Coach Devall was class-personified, a pleasure to work with, making life real easy for JF Sports, in his capacity as Principal at Central HS. Thank you Coach Ronnie Devall!!
STEVE JOHNSON ON FIRE!
We’re looking forward to another quality The Steve Johnson Show (on THE CENTRAL STORY) tonight. Steve’s guests include Central HS Football offensive coordinator David Simoneaux, Central HS assistant principal (and former long-time area coach) David Prescott, Central School Board Member David Walker, 2 of the great Central Baseball players of year’s past—Steve Johnson Jr and Matt Walker, and Central HS Bowler Jacob Garretson. Check out the show, live, at Zoe’s Pizza Buffet ($5.00 buffet in the month of March

THE WIZARDRY OF OS
Assistant Basketball Coach/Head Swimming Coach at Central High School
It was two days after the NBA Dunk Contest and I was talking with one of the other basketball coaches and some of the players on the basketball team that watch the NBA. The part of the conversation I want to highlight went something like this…
“Did you see where the dude signed the picture after the dunk?”
“No, I didn’t watch it.”
“Me either, I just saw the highlights on ESPN.”
“Who won it? The same dude as last year?”
“No. Terrance Ross.”
“Who?”
That conversation would never have happened from 1985-1988 when the dunk contest helped make the NBA grow in popularity. Michael Jordan and/or Dominque Wilkins competed in each of those years. They were two of the most electrifying athletes and scorers of their era. They were at All-Star weekend to compete in the All-Star Game AND the Dunk Contest.
For those that haven’t figured out where I am going with this, LeBron James has made news recently for not competing in the dunk contest. First of all, it must be pointed out that his absence from the competition had not been major news until recently because of his choice to put on a show in pregame warm-ups. So he brought this on himself.
Personally, I believe it is his decision whether to participate in the dunk contest and his decision how he warms up for games. But his response when the public reaction is negative is where he needs to grow up because he has yet to learn that his decisions have natural consequences.
This lack of maturity, decision making ability, and understanding of perception is what separates him from Michael Jordan. You can argue which player is the better athlete or who is the greater basketball player, but there is no contest as to who is a better ambassador of the game and the league.
Obviously, LeBron is not reading this article, but I am going to give him advice that someone should have given him a long time ago. DO THE STINKING CONTEST! Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, and all the other great shooters did the 3-point contest. Jordan, Kobe, and even Dwight Howard did the dunk contest. Great players should participate in All-Star competitions that showcase their particular skill set at some point in their career. They should do it for the fans and do it for the league.
LeBron, you are already going to be there. It is not going to wear you out for the second half of the season, and it is not going to “throw off your swing” (a typical excuse for baseball players to avoid the home run derby). The companies that endorse you will love you showing off their brand.
There would have been no downside to participating the first 10 years of your career. But now, through your choices you have drawn attention to yourself and Magic Johnson has put you in what some people have called a lose-lose position. Bull!! Don’t listen to them. This situation is an easy win-win.
Take Magic up on his offer. Match his million with your own million. Challenge guys like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook to join you. Tell everyone you should have participated years ago, but you can’t do anything about that now. Then put on an absolute show next year. Show off all your style, charisma, athleticism, and have fun. The league wins, you win, other players win, and the companies you endorse win. It is a win-win on HGH. You can even pretend it was your idea. I won’t tell anyone.
